Holiday Diet Tips

As the Holidays are here I would like to offer a few tips. Our goal with our clients is to maintain their current weight and not put on pounds during the Holiday. According to a CNN report: the average North American adult gains 7-10 pounds over the holiday season.
Don’t be Average!
Do not go to festivities hungry. This will help you control your portions. You can be polite and have a small portion of a dessert. Make sure you are eating more of lean meats and salads and eat less of the breads, pastas and mashed potatoes.
Keep the junk food out of your house
Limit your Holiday desserts and junk food to parties only. Bringing junk food into the house is an added temptation that no one needs during the holidays; it’s hard enough at the parties!
Happy Holidays

Eating during Exercise

During exercise your muscles become sponges, so feed them!
Sugar eaten with exercise will be used by your muscles or stored in your muscles, not in your fat.
Most recommend a 200 calorie intake with exercise and a recovery drink.
I recommend starting small with about 100 calories of a sports drink and then adjusting the intake for your body. It may take month to years to figure out the best food, drink and amount for your body.
What are the Benefits?
·         Increasing your fuel (caloric intake) you can work out harder and burn more calories.
·         Enjoy working out! If you are working out when you are hungry it is miserable, only those with incredible discipline can do it.
·         After your work out you won’t go home and eat everything in your house! You can go home, feel satisfied and stay on your diet.

Sugar in Drinks

If you saw someone putting 10 packets of sugar in their coffee or tea you would think they were nuts, right?

Well that is how many sugar packets are in a can of soda.
Even worse, a 32oz soft drink has 20 packets of sugar!

Excess sugar causes obesity. Obesity can kill. Obesity kills almost as many people every year as smoking.

So what are some healthy options if you are a soda drinker?
  • Herbal Tea
  • Water
  • Diet Soft Drinks
Some people are worried about the artificial sweetners in soft drinks. Yes, there are studies that say that artificial sweetners maybe linked to causes of cancer but, it's not certain. Sugar has been  proven to cause fattening and insulin resistance, which increases risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.

So put down the soft drink and do your body a favor!
